There are some photography sessions that feel a little more personal than others.

I love every family, couple, and parent-to-be who steps in front of my camera, but getting the opportunity to document my own family is always something special. So when my cousin Aaron and his wife Lexie reached out about scheduling a maternity session, I was so excited.

One of my favorite things about photography is getting a front-row seat to life's biggest milestones. Sometimes that means photographing a wedding. Sometimes it means welcoming a new baby. And if I'm lucky, it means documenting both.

A few months before this session, I photographed Aaron's entire family. Aaron and Lexie had recently gotten married, and everyone was gathered together for family photos. What I didn't know at the time was that they had just discovered they were expecting their first child.

Looking back now, there's something incredibly sweet about that.

While everyone else was smiling for family photos, Aaron and Lexie were quietly carrying a secret that would change their lives forever.

Fast forward a few months, and that secret was impossible to hide.

For their maternity session, we met in Johnson City at Willow Springs Park on a beautiful East Tennessee evening. The light was soft, the temperature was perfect, and there was an undeniable excitement surrounding this season of life. Every glance, every laugh, and every moment between them reflected the anticipation of becoming parents.

One of the things I loved most about this session was how natural Aaron and Lexie were together. There wasn't any need to force moments or create emotions. They simply showed up as themselves, excited for the future and soaking in these final months before their family grows.

As a mother myself, maternity sessions hold a special place in my heart. Pregnancy is such a unique season—equal parts exciting, emotional, exhausting, and beautiful. It can feel like forever while you're living it, but somehow it passes in the blink of an eye.

That's why I believe these photographs matter.

They preserve the anticipation, the waiting, and the quiet moments before everything changes.
